the abstract

Gianni Versace was an Italian designer who changed the fashion world forever. His Spring/Summer 1995 Ready-to-Wear collection was one that highlighted the decade's shift from grunge into a more feminine form. The collection consisted of eighty looks, each highlighting fashion trends and themes prevalent throughout the nineties. He had a bright palette that had a perfect balance of primary and secondary, and warm and cool tones. Most of the silhouettes showcased fitted-draped fabrics and accentuated waistlines. Versace wanted this collection to pay great attention to cut, form, and shape while returning to glamour and emphasizing the body-consciousness of today’s woman.

analysis

Versace had a unique way of creating an equilibrium between the historical and modern silhouette, which he did in his Spring/Summer 1995 Ready-to-Wear Collection. Much of the early nineties fashion was heavily grunge. The end of the decade followed with a return to more form-fitting and feminine attire. Vogue declared that “the body is back,” and Versace’s collection brought femininity back into fashion. He told Vogue that the collection was about “the body-consciousness of today’s women that gives the return to glamour a real current attitude. It’s all about basic forms with wonderful shapes and great attention to the cut.”
